Special Photo Event

The Staff of the Triple “D” is proud to present a rare opportunity you won’t want to miss! Can you imagine a mountain lion, or perhaps two, posing for wildlife photographers using the magnificent landscape of Monument Valley as the background? Here, the sand dunes, buttes, grand arches and other unique rock formations are internationally recognizable as iconic symbols of the American West and have been used for over 50 years as the backdrop of many Hollywood film productions. Finally, after years of discussion, it is going to happen! The Triple “D” has finalized plans to travel to Monument Valley in April 2012, with a large selection of their trained wildlife models. We are very proud to be staging our unique venture on Lorenz and Barbara Holiday’s Moonlight Springs Ranch, ten miles west of Goulding’s Lodge. Having been granted the opportunity to base operations on a traditional Navajo homestead and through our respected host and Navajo guides, Triple “D” participants will have the chance to witness and experience the history, culture and challenges of the local residents. Filming sites have been selected in various locations throughout Monument Valley to include Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park and Moonlight Springs Ranch. This includes back country locations which allow access only to those with a Navajo Nation guide. Some of the selected sites include spectacular stone arches, rocky outcrops using the “Mittens” or other monuments of archeological significance, and locations with cultural intrigue.

The Triple “D” staff will travel to Monument Valley with 12-15 animals. Our tentative plans will be to bring the following species: black bear, mountain lions, bobcat, Siberian lynx, coyote, wolves, grey fox, cross fox, red fox, badger and porcupine, and the possibility of a grizzly bear cub and a tiger cub. Some additions or changes may be necessary prior to our departure. The staff will set up camp on the Holidays’ Moonlight Springs Ranch 10 miles west of the Goulding’s Lodge. Filming locations have been selected in the vicinity of the Moonlight Springs Ranch, Monument Valley proper and the restricted areas of the park commonly referred to as the “Back Country”. Our objective is to offer the opportunity for participants to photograph our animals in settings only common to the unique Monument Valley. Those images could never be obtained any other way. Participants will be guaranteed eight photo sessions during the three day event with an option to attend additional sessions. The group size for each event will be limited to 12 photographers. Some of the three day events will be reserved for participants who would like to join an organized group (referred to as a guided session). A professional photographer and group leader will provide instruction and manage the logistics for the group. Contact us for more information on joining an organized group. Other sessions (unguided) will be reserved for individuals who prefer not to have the assistance of a group leader.
